Keela Filters
For this project, the leadership team approached us with the priority of "making filters better." The team consisted of a product manager, a technical lead, and a design lead (myself). We collaborated closely to define the projectโs direction and process to ensure the end solution would be an excellent fit for each type of user.
The goal was two-fold, improve the ease of use of frequently used filters while increasing Keelaโs advanced filtering ability overall. To achieve this, we created two spaces: one for pre-determined simple filters, and the other with advanced and/or logic-based filters with filter grouping. This way, we were able to provide a win-win situation for all users.
In the images below, youโll notice the filters bar which sits on the table, and the advanced filters modal where the complex filters live. This enables lower-tech users to easily see whatโs important to them while allowing power users to filter to their heartโs content. To go a step further, we mirrored the simple filters on the advanced filtering modal which ensures both filter types work in harmony.

Outcome
The filters project was a challenging but ultimately rewarding one. By working closely together and reviewing every week to refine the solution, we were able to meet the high standards we set for ourselves and create a solution that was well received by all.
โWe worked on countless projects together, but the most vital was redoing the filters in Keela. The project, which was about as complex of a design and product challenge as I've ever been given in my career, was executed with precision by Alex. He is so much more than an excellent designer, he's an incredible business person.โ
